You need to protect your skin in the winter. The cold weather can take a toll on your skin, leaving you with dry patches and flakiness. And, with dry skin and flakiness comes itchiness, acne, and dullness. Without the proper care, your skin will lose its summer glow and moisture, leaving you with these issues.
Here’s how to protect your skin in the winter.
Moisturize Daily
Moisturize at least twice a day. Try and use a thicker moisturizer so your skin can absorb the extra moisture. Petroleum or cream-based moisturizers are ideal during the winter. If you have sensitive skin, then ensure your moisturizer is fragrance free. One way to allow your skin to trap the moisture is to apply it after bathing.
Use A Humidifier
Even when you’re at home, comfortable and warm, your skin can still get dry. The cold makes the air very dry. Having a humidifier helps to bring moisture back into the air, keeping your skin moisturized. Make sure to keep your humidifier clean so it can function properly.
Avoid Tanning
When you go on vacation, yes you can tan. But, during the winter, avoid using tanning beds. They dry out your skin and can also damage your skin cells. It is not worth the tan.
Use Sunscreen
Even though the sun isn’t as strong in the winter, sunscreen protects your skin. When you are going to be outside for long periods of time, make sure to apply sunscreen of 15 SPF or more before you go. You should also reapply throughout the day.
Don’t Overdo Cleansing
Cleansing is an important step in your skincare routine. It helps to remove bacteria, dirt, and any excess makeup from your face. But, it can also dry out your skin. Try to cleanse your face with gentle products and avoid doing it more than once a day.
