It’s finally here. While the full-on warm weather of summer hasn’t set in, spring is here and the higher temperatures aren’t far behind.
That means you get to take your shorts and swimsuits out of storage or, better yet, plan a day at the mall to get some new summer outfits and beachwear!!
Springtime Means One More Thing
All those warm-weather fashions tend to reveal a little more skin than what you’ve been using to keep warm all winter. Skin that might need a hair removal treatment.
You can choose one of any number of ways to get rid of unwanted hair all over your body. But there are a couple methods that you should absolutely avoid for the sake of your health and the beauty of your skin.
Why You Shouldn’t Use Hair Removal Creams
Chemical hair removal products, including gels, creams, lotions, aerosols, roll-ons and powders, are very popular. But you must use them with caution. In fact, they can be so toxic, it’s best to avoid them and simply chose a safer way to remove hair.
Here’s why you should stay away from hair removal creams:
1. Harsh Chemicals
Unlike other hair removal methods, like lasers, electrolysis, threading and even plain-old shaving creams, chemical hair removers literally ‘burn’ hair away using a toxic chemical cocktail, including calcium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide.
2. Dermatitis
The chemicals in hair removal creams and gels are linked to a condition called ‘Contact Dermatis’, which is inflammation of the skin that is so severe, it’s “like a second-degree burn” according to Gervaise Gerstner, MD, a New York City dermatologist.
3. Riskier Exposure to the Sun
One woman reported third-degree burns when she went to the beach shortly after using a well-known chemical hair removal product. Not everyone will experience such sever results, but why risk it.
It’s really very simple to find and choose the best hair removal method for your skin and health. If it involves chemicals, stay away from it.
