The Dos and Don’ts of Healthy Skin

Of course, we all want to look our beautiful best. It’s why we spend so much time and effort on things like facial treatments, cosmetics and skincare products.

It’s also important to do everything we can to make our face and skin look as healthy and beautiful as possible. But that doesn’t begin and end with doing things toour skin.

To get the most of all the efforts we make to look good, we should start with doing things forour skin. Things that help make it healthier, stronger and more radiant.

Things You Should and Shouldn’t Do to Have Healthier Skin

Do These:

1. Eat Well

The health of you skin depends on your overall health. And that begins with a healthy, balanced diet that gives you lots of skin-boosting nutrients.

2. Get Lots of Sleep

First, if you don’t get a good night’s sleep, not only do you feel tired in the morning, your skin looks tired too. But sleep isn’t just about rest. It’s also a time when your mind and body rebalance and rejuvenate themselves, including your skin.

3. Be More Active

Back to your overall health, increased physical activity helps to manage your weight and boost your immunity. Perhaps most importantly for your skin, exercise helps in two basic ways. First, when you sweat, it opens and unclogs the pores of your skin. Second, increased blood circulation brings many more of the healthy nutrients in you diet right to your skin. The result? Cleaner, healthier skin!

4. Water It

It’s Mother Nature’s basic and most powerful moisturizer. Except it moisturizes from within. Make sure you drink lots of water throughout the day.

Don’t Do These:

1. Go Out Without Sun Protection

Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach. SPF should be an integral part of the skin care products you wear every day. Summer and winter. Overcast and sunny.

2. Smoke

Even if you ignore the fact that it shortens your life, you should quit smoking if you want healthier skin. Smoking narrows the blood vessels near the skin. That reduces blood flow, which reduces the nutrients and oxygen that your skin needs to look great. Smoking has also been linked to the reduction of collagen and elastin, which keep your skin strong and supple.

3. Use Too Much Makeup

This is one of those vicious circles you can get into if you don’t take care of your skin’s health. When it doesn’t look as good as it could, you cover your skin with foundation, blush, concealer, whatever it takes to make it look better. But they can all clog your pores, and rob your skin of moisture and oxygen.

4. Don’t Irritate It

Nothing like a steaming hot shower and scrubbing off with a towel afterwards, eh? Yes, nothing like it for damaging your skin. Hot showers and strong soaps actually rob your skin of moisture. Rubbing too hard when you’re drying off can aslo dry out your skin and make it look blotchy. Shower in lukewarm water, wash with mild soaps and pat your skin dry afterwards.
