4 Health And Wellness Trends 2019

This time it’s different. From yoga decades ago to the ketogenic diet more recently, each New Years seems to bring new trends in health and wellness. But so far, 2019 is different. Yes, new trends are happening, but they aren’t only trendy. Consumers are pushing for real solutions versus empty promises.

With that in mind, we thought we’d put together our own health and wellness trends report to give you a head start on all the latest.

Trends in Health & Wellness for 2019

As if to underline the shift to real change, the year has started with a report published by the highly-regarded medical journal The Lancet. It calls for radical change in worldwide food production to not only resolve many health issues but also to stave off climate change.

But its just one of the trends for 2019.

  1. Bringing Fitness Home – With the advent of ‘smart’ exercise equipment, including treadmills, rowing machines, and stationary bicycles, there’s been a noted shift in sentiment towards home fitness. One report found that 54% of those who work out at gyms regularly are considering a home fitness system. And more personal trainers are getting calls to help people at home versus the gym.
  2. More Plant-Based Meat – In line with The Lancet report, the new Canada Food Guide will urge us away from meat and dairy products towards more healthy foods and beverages like vegetables, fruit, nuts, and beans. Research shows that plant-based alternatives for meat and dairy offer a number of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects and protection from serious diseases like cancer, diabetes, and obesity.
  3. Get a Mental Check-Up – Mental health awareness continues to emerge from the stigma that once kept it hidden. More people are seeking the same sort of mental health ‘check-ups’ that they get from family doctors during yearly physicals.
  4. Listen to a Lullaby – The Centre for Disease Control in the U.S., considers the fact that more than a third of adults don’t get enough sleep each night to be a public health epidemic. Improved sleep cycles are linked to many health benefits, including better weight management, improved brain function and fewer mental health issue, like anxiety and depression.
